Pediatrics Q & A

What is pediatrics?

Pediatrics provides primary care services for infants, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric care starts at birth and lasts through a child’s 21st birthday or longer. Pediatricians prevent, detect and manage physical, behavioral and developmental issues that affect children.

From infancy to young adulthood, children go through many physical and developmental changes. Pediatricians are specifically trained in monitoring growth and development in young people and spotting deviations so they get needed  treatment, right away.

Pediatricians undergo extensive education and training. First they get a 4 year undergraduate degree, then they must attend 4 years of medical school. When they decide to specialize in pediatrics, they join a residency program. Residency includes extra training in various pediatric specialties such as newborns, general pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics. Most pediatricians have a total of 10 years of schooling before they work in their field.

What services are provided through pediatrics?

Catalyst Medical Group is a full-service medical practice. Some pediatric services include:

Well-child exams

The team at Catalyst Medical Group provides well-child exams for infants, children, and teens. The frequency of these exams depends on your child’s age. After the age of 2, children need a well-child exam every year. This comprehensive exam evaluates your child’s general health, growth, and development. These exams should be used for your childs sports physical. Then you know your child is really ready for their sport.
